An Excercise of Introspection
Hope No.1 is an introspective exercise to understand where the hope in my life lies. I found that as the pandemic started myself, and many in my community (as they expressed themselves in social media) were starting to lose hope. It was during my times of reflection and the question WHY that brought me back to conclusions like the fact that sometimes in life we truly cannot control our situations.

I have been spending time in nature and observing the sky, and while I wasn’t intentionally trying to depict the sky in Hope No.1, my approach was to “spill” white over the base layers of color” and allow the paint to settle where it may.
Trusting the Process
Hope No.1 is a mixed media painting that I started at the beginning of 2019.
I was originally working on it, as part of the Movement Series which focuses on the representation of change through the abstraction of people in motion, while walking in the city center. However, unlike different pieces, it never felt complete. When COVID-19 hit Honduras in early March, I packed up many of my supplies from my studio and headed home. I had come to a point where the “Movement Series” was coming to a close, and I thought that this painting would be the last one, but instead, it marked a transition in my mark-making.
