La Ciudad que Habitamos, Photography Exhibition

In early January 2020, 5 of my photographs were selected for a group show in Centro Cultural de España.

“La Ciudad que habitamos” held a open call to showcase life in Tegucigalpa.

The photographs I submitted were ones I took in the course of the last 2 years and  I wanted to focus more on the hopeful side of humanity.

Aspirational.

The photograph of the man in the hat is one most dear to my heart.  It is a photograph of my grandfather that I took back in 2017.  He is a singer-songwriter, and a well known Honduran artist responsible for creating many folklore songs that are sung in our public schools. In late 2019, he suffered an accident while doing a sound-check for one of his performances.  This accident left him a paralytic, without the ability to walk.

As I cared for him in one of several hospital shifts in late 2020, we conversed about art and music.  I realized that his romantic view of the world is possibly one thing I inherited.  He was laying in his hospital bed with the knowledge of possibly not being able to walk again, yet he was thinking about the new songs he was going to create, the stories he wanted to tell.

I had submitted my photos prior to this experience, but I recognized a similar spirit in who he is.
